Message: Shadow vs. Real - What Jesus Changed About Everything

THE SHADOW AND THE REAL ONE

8 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.            Hebrews 8:1-3 (NIV)

5 They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven.                          Hebrews 8:5 (NIV) 

12 When Christ went through the tent and entered once and for all into the Most Holy Place, he did not take the blood of goats and bulls to offer as a sacrifice; rather, he took his own blood and obtained eternal salvation for us.  Hebrews 9:12 (GNT)

6 But now, Jesus has been given priestly work which is superior to theirs, just as the covenant which he arranged between God and his people is a better one, because it is based on promises of better things. Hebrews 8:6 (GNT)

THE LOVE THAT GOD WAS ALWAYS REVEALING

11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here,[a] he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption. Hebrews 9:11-12 (NIV)

14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[c] so that we may serve the living God!   Hebrews 9:14 (NIV)

5 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.    Hebrews 9:15 (NIV)

No longer will they teach their neighbor,
     or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’

     from the least of them to the greatest,”

Faith Exercise 

God had the perfect plan to replace the old covenant, where people had to constantly atone for sin with animal sacrifices. Jesus set those old, worn-out shoes aside and stepped right into a brand-new pair, becoming our everlasting way. He took every single element of the covenant upon Himself—making it new, fresh, and eternal. The old is now brand new, so there are no more sacrifices, no more scuffs, and no more holes. Jesus became the ultimate, final sacrifice, as Hebrews 8:6 tells us that He has "obtained a more excellent ministry... [and is] the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises."

We all know what it's like to have an old pair of shoes. They’re weathered, the soles are thin, the heels are slanted, and they're covered in scuffs and tears. But man, there is nothing quite like opening a box of brand-new shoes! They’re sleek, spotless, and completely fresh. When I get a new pair, I find myself checking the weather app just to make sure there's no rain in the forecast. I’ll walk around puddles and do everything I can to keep that "new shoe" feeling alive for as long as possible. 

But eventually, reality sets in. You get that first big scratch or stain that no amount of shoe polish can fix. Suddenly, those prized shoes cross over into everyday territory. Before you know it, you're wearing them out in the mud, in the pouring rain, or while doing chores. That’s just the lifecycle of earthly things—they eventually wear down and lose their shine and appeal.   

But with Jesus, that "new shoe" feeling never fades. We have a new covenant that brings permanent stability, comfort, and closeness. It gives us a direct line to the Father anytime, day or night—even on the weekends or at two o'clock in the morning. God made a fresh, everlasting way for us to return to Him, and that’s through His Son. He is the truth, the life, and the way. Come walk and talk with Him today; spend time now with the Father – He longs to be with you! 

Pray 

Father, I can’t thank You enough for Your Son, Jesus, the new covenant, the new shoes. Thank You for this new covenant, which gives us direct access to You. Because of Jesus' blood atoning for our sins, we can step right into the Holy of Holies to spend time with You. We now have direct access to You through Jesus, our High Priest, and oh what J O Y it is to spend time with You, Father!
